Set a static IP address in Backtrack 4

First you’ll need to make sure the networking service is started:

/etc/init.d/networking start

Then you can set the static IP address:

ifconfig eth0 10.1.1.97 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

Set the default gateway:
BackTrack 5 Wireless Penetration Testing Beginner’s Guide

route add default gw 10.1.1.1

Set your dns servers and search suffixes:

nano /etc/resolv.conf

Add the following lines for your environment:

domain internaldomain.local
search internaldomain.local
nameserver 10.1.1.15
nameserver 10.1.1.10

That’s it.  You should have network connectivity.
