BackTrack 4 Cheats

Networking

DHCP is turned off by default in BackTrack 4 PF, but you can enable it if you like.  To start networking you need to run:

sudo /etc/init.d/networking start

…and to have networking load at boot when you have it installed to a hard drive or usb drive you can run:

sudo update-rc.d networking defaults

SSH

First you need to generate your host keys:

sudo ssh-keygen -t dsa -f /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key

sudo ssh-keygen -t rsa -f /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key

Now you can start sshd:

sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start

If you want ssh to start upon boot, run:

sudo update-rc.d ssh defaults

Wireless

Wireless networking can be started with Knetworkmanager.  Run:

sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager
